About the data
Harvestable = forested land (VRI land-cover class T) that is Crown, outside parks / protected areas / no-harvest wildlife areas, and not private. Non-forest (rock, water, alpine, wetland) is excluded. 2021 old-growth deferral areas are counted as harvestable because they are not legally protected. "Logged" and "under 40 years" percentages use this harvestable area as the denominator; ECA is tallied on the logged part of each stand only (the share of each stand inside the recorded cutblock footprint, pro-rated, plus blocks logged since 2023 at 0%), with recovery from VRI projected tree height on the Winkler & Boon 2015 curve (0% at 3 m, 25% at 6 m, 50% at 8 m, 75% at 12 m, 90% at 16 m, 100% at 20 m) — the province's own GIS watershed assessment method. Unlogged stands carry no ECA; roads and wildfire are not added. ECA is a share of total watershed area. Community watersheds are scored on their full designated polygon even where it extends beyond the study area. Proposed-block rates: hectares in current Forest Operations Maps not yet logged (a block re-noticed in a later FOM is counted once, newest notice kept), divided by the span of planned years; compared with the licensee's 2015–2025 (Tolko) or all-licensee 2004–2025 average. Provincial data only, pulled from the BC Geographic Warehouse (openmaps.gov.bc.ca) on . Cutblocks: Consolidated Cutblocks + FTEN cut-block permits (licensee = client on the permit; blocks before electronic permits, ~2000, have no licensee). Proposed blocks: Forest Operations Map (FOM). Forest age and tree height: VRI 2025 (projected). Hydrologic recovery: Winkler & Boon 2015, BC Extension Note 116, Table 2, Thompson–Okanagan curve (0% recovered at 3 m tree height, 25% at 6 m, 50% at 8 m, 75% at 12 m, 90% at 16 m, 100% at 20 m); ECA = area × (1 − recovery), Extension Note 118; thresholds 20% (community watersheds), 25% (fisheries-sensitive), 30% (other) from the 1992 Okanagan timber harvesting guidelines as cited in Extension Note 118. Fire threat: BC Wildfire Service Provincial Strategic Threat Analysis (PSTA) fire threat rating, official classes and colours. Watershed units: Freshwater Atlas assessment watersheds; community watersheds: WLS_COMMUNITY_WS_PUB_SVW. Protected: parks, no-harvest WHAs and ungulate winter ranges, conservation lands. Old-growth deferral areas: 2021 TAP priority deferrals (not legally protected). Areas computed in BC Albers. Colours follow BC Geographic Warehouse / FOM portal styles where one exists.
